Toyota Fengchao Fun Concept Is Asian Market Version of the New Camry. Toyota just revealed Fengchao Fun concept at 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, and it is rumored that the sedan concept envisions the future Camry for the Asian market. In the North American market, the new Toyota Camry was just unveiled earlier this year in Detroit and ready to roll to the dealership this year as well.
Toyota Fengchao Fun Specifications
In terms of design, Fengchao Fun concept bears a lot of resemblance with the new US spec Camry, especially on the side profile. The door looks like a smoother and sleeker version of the 8th generation Camry. Furthermore, the shape and flow of the concept are also the same with the new Camry.
Even though the side profile is very similar to the new American Camry, both the front and the rear part are different and graced with sharper yet cleaner details. It is still clear in our mind how the last two generations of Camry that were sold in Asia looked like. The front and rear part adopt Aurion design, and both cars are targeted to middle-class buyers.
Now, Fengchao Fun concept features something very different. The concept gets large front mesh grille, the narrower aperture that houses new and thinner headlights and taillights, large wheels shod, floating roof as well as integrated trunk spoiler that makes the concept looks more athletic and bolder.
With those sportier and more contemporary elements, it is reported that if the concept manages to spawn into the production version, the Asian spec Camry will be sold to a different target market. Instead of for middle-class buyers, it is possible that the car will be positioned in more luxury class.
The new Camry is underpinned by Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that is also used in the new Prius. Fengchao Fun concept also sits on the same chassis, and the design shows all the great things of the platform’s modular unibody. This platform also gives the car lower center of gravity, which ensures more balanced handling, better driving experience, and surely less body roll.
The US Camry comes with three power options—the most potent 3.5 L V6 engine with D-4S fuel injection, 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, and the new Toyota Hybrid System (THS II). There is no detail yet regarding the China-spec Camry, but it is possible that it will get the 2.5 L 4-cylinder and the 3.5 L V6 engine.
Toyota Fengchao Fun Release Date and Price
Toyota Fengchao Fun concept indeed looks somehow similar to the new North American Camry. However, it is still too early to tell when it will be released. The company even has yet to say anything regarding the possibility of this concept to spawn into a production version. But one thing for sure, if Fengchao Fun really will make it into production, it definitely will not arrive in Australia.
This is because it has been confirmed that the Oz will receive the Japan-built Camry that will come later this year. As for the North American Camry, it is reported that it will also go on sale in late 2017.
