Tata Tigor Officially Unveiled at Geneva Motor Show. Tata has officially unveiled Tigor, its newest subcompact sedan that will target European market. Tigor is a rendition of the automaker’s best-selling model, Tiago and Tiago’s platform also underpins it. But instead of the hatchback, Tigor is a fastback—or Style back in Tata’s language.
Tigor is positioned below Tata Zest, which hopefully will help to attract more buyers, especially in the Old Continent. Besides the fastback, Tata also brings Tata Nexon and the sporty Tamo Racemo Sports Car.
Tata Tigor Specifications
Tigor adopts Tata’s IMPACT design language which makes it look very alike with Tiago. The front part is especially similar. The fastback looks pretty nice with swept back style headlights that come with projector lights and daytime running LED lights as well as the automaker’s iconic emotion grille.
The body line looks really strong while the rear looks sporty thanks to the large rear bumper and also the wraparound tail lamps. At first glance, Tigor seems like Tiago’s twin siblings, and it also sounds like a hatchback.
However, if you pay attention to the rear exterior, you will notice that the fastback has its signature that makes it different with its hatchback brother. The rear window is not lifted with the trunk lid which makes everything clear that Tigor is a fastback and not a hatchback.
In the design department, Tigor is actually pretty good, but still, there is something amiss, probably because of the size. The original is clearly longer than this one. And, it’s just hard to predict how the European buyers will react to the smaller size. There is a pretty good reason for the reduced length.
Even though Tata plans to expand its wings to Europe with Tigor, still, this sedan is made with Indian market at mind. In India, cars longer than 4 meters will be taxed higher. As a result, Tata decided to shed Tigor’s length so that it doesn’t have to increase the car’s price due to the higher tax.

Nothing will change in the engine lineup as well as the power figure. So Tata Tigor will be equipped with the usual 1.2 L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and 1.05 L 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine, both are identical with Tiago. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Since Tiago gets AMG gearbox, it is safe to say that Tigor will also receive the same treatment.
Tata Tigor Release Date and Price
It has been confirmed that the new Tata Tigor will be released in India on March 29 this year. Once it is launched in the Indian market, Tigor will compete with the likes of Suzuki Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire. Tata will also send Tigor to Europe, but the Indian company has not announced when this subcompact sedan will arrive in the Old Continent.
One of the most prominent challenges this car has to face before entering Europe market is to obtain good EuroNCAP test rating. European buyers are very picky when it comes to the car. As a result, Tata must be able to prove that Tigor is strong and capable enough to attract buyers in that region.
