Ssangyong XAVL Concept’s Teaser Revealed Ahead of Debut. Ssangyong will debut some new models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show which starting on March 7th, and one of them is Ssangyong XAVL Concept. XAVL stands for exciting Authentic Vehicle Long SUV. And, despite the cringe-worthy acronym, this new 7-seater SUV looks very promising. The South Korean automaker dubbed the SUV concept as “tough and masculine”, which can be clearly seen from the teaser images. It will bring not only the utmost convenience for both driver and passengers but also practicality.
SsangYong XAVL Specifications
Ssangyong has revealed teaser images of the XAVL concept ahead of its debut. The images don’t show many things, but we can still pick up some important visual cues from them. SsangYong XAVL is an iteration of the 5-seat SUV concept that was unveiled two years ago at Frankfurt Motor Show. The design is inspired by the second generation Korando from the 90s, but it is also given some twists that make the car looks modern.
The teasers give the clear view of the car’s front part, and it is clear that the dramatic and angular lines at the front are the evolution of the company’s design language. The car itself is measured at 4,630 mm x 1,866 mm x 1,640 mm with 2,725 mm wheelbase. This dimension placed XAVL concept in the same market as the likes of Land Rover Discovery Sport, Nissan X-Trail, and Skoda Kodiaq.
Meanwhile, in the cabin, it is reported that XAVL concept will feature user-friendly interface as well as large digital display. We can also expect connected car technology that will make XAVL concept more competitive in its class and also the wider cabin for more comfort.
In addition, this SUV will be equipped with various safety aids. Not only for the driver and passengers inside the car but also for pedestrians. What exactly those safety aids are, Ssangyong has not said anything so we should wait until the concept debuts at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
Up to this point, Ssangyong has not revealed anything regarding XAVL’s powertrain. But, it has been confirmed that both petrol and diesel unit will be available. The engine lineup will put XAVL above the new Korando but still not as capable as Rexton.
SsangYong XAVL Release Date and price
The South Korean automaker has not confirmed whether this concept will be followed up by a production version or not. But judging at the specifications and its possibility of attracting buyers, this SUV definitely can make it into production. However, let’s not expect it to happen anytime soon. It is possible that SsangYong XAVL could go into production sometime in 2019. But it seems like it will not arrive on the market within this decade.
Ssangyong is currently planning to increase its production to at least 500,000 units per year. And, XAVL concept could be a part of it in the future. To achieve its ambitious goal, the South Korean automaker will make use of its technology with some help from its parent company, Mahindra India as well as LG U+.
