Skoda Vision E Concept Is Set to be Tesla Model X Rival. Skoda Vision E concept will be unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show next month. The production version of the concept will be based on the new MEB platform from Volkswagen, and it is said to arrive by the end of the decade.
Skoda recently trademarked a name, Aratan. And, it is possible that it will be the name of the production version of Vision E. The hot EV will be the first ever fully electric car produced by the Czech company and it is set to be an alternative of Tesla Model X. As the first fully-electric model, Vision E will open the path for the company to start its electrification program.
Skoda Vision E Specifications
“Our strategy 2025 has electrification at its heart,” Bernhard Maier, Skoda CEO, told the press. “The Vision E shows our intent and how our design language will evolve.”
The concept comes as a 4-seat SUV. However, it is said that the production version probably will come as a 5-seat model. Furthermore, another noteworthy thing to look from Vision E concept is its dimension. With 4.64 m long and 1.92 m wide, it is clear that this car is shorter than the new Kodiaq SUV, but at the same time, also wider.
Furthermore, compared to the bestselling Skoda Octavia, the cabin of 2020 Vision E has some better adjustments. First of all, it is the driver sitting position that will be 25 percent higher compared to the Octavia. As a result, the driver will get a better view and more comfortable sitting position while driving. Also, to provide even more convenient for the occupants, the knee room of Vision E is also seven percent larger than that Skoda’s most popular model.
There is little we can get regarding the cabin elements. But it is reported that the dashboard will be graced with 12 inches touchscreen that is placed in the center of the dashboard.
The powertrain of both the concept and the production version consists of a newly developed lithium-ion battery and two electric motors, sending power to both front and rear axles. The company has not announced how big the capacity of the battery will be, but it will be placed in the floor pan.
As for the electric motors, the total power is said to be 300 bhp (225 kW). Furthermore, since there are two motors, one for each axle, Vision E, and later Aratan, is naturally an all-wheel drive car. However, due to MEB’s flexible structure, other configurations are also possible.
According to reports, the car will have 310 miles range and a top speed of 112 mph. Also, it also comes with level 3 autonomous driving system. It means Vision E is capable of finding itself a parking spot as well as drive in autopilot mode on the motorway.
