Next-gen Mazda BT-50. During business performance presentation event for ASEAN in Japan lately, Mazda announced a new strategy on their upcoming truck, new Mazda BT-50. Instead of working alone, this Japan manufacturer will collaborate with one other automaker. The details are not accurate yet, but the following update indicates impressive lead.
2017 Mazda BT-50 Specifications
When this move is announced, Mazda hasn’t mentioned any plan on its powertrain. The only detail remains on its announcement is that Isuzu has agreed to build the next ute for Mazda. Based on the current plan, the new Mazda BT-50 pick-up truck will be constructed based on Isuzu D-Max. If this is true, it is highly possible that the new pick-up will get the same engine as the next D-Max. If they use recent version engine, power output should be improved a little, following current demand on pickup and truck. Until the production is started, we don’t know what engines will be added to the line up and its’ specs. This pickup truck will be built in Isuzu’s facility in Thailand where the D-Max is constructed.
Exterior and Interior
Of course, this is still too early for a speculation on the new pickup look. However, Mazda’s executive officer for growing market, Hiroshi Inoue, confirms that both automakers are committed to having unique version of what they build. Mazda will trim the new pickup in basic design they apply for their BT-50.
Meanwhile, the general design of Ranger should be a good base to use too, perhaps for the Isuzu version. The entire concept will differentiate the models. The Next-Gen Mazda BT-50 dashboard and exterior body panels will be so different to each other. When Mazda was asked on the future plan of pickup-based SUV, this Japanese automaker confirms they don’t have such plan so far. This new pickup will be the only offer if they stick to the current plan.
