Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro Coming to SEMA, Previewed. Mazda recently previews two cars that are scheduled to come to SEMA. Those cars are Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evo and MX-5 RF Kuro. The first car has been brought to last year event, but it gets new evolution on it. The second car is more likely to the production version. Here is the full detail on both cars.
Mazda MX-5 Miata Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro Specs
Features, Exterior, and Interior
The evolution of both cars is widely adopted from the MX-5 Global Cup race car. In addition to it, Mazda’s evolution package enriches the look of the car too. The first car, Mazda MX-5 Speedster evolution is finished in White Ether paint finish, and it rides on black wheels which make a different factor.
A change on its bodyweight is also made. Mazda hasn’t specified how, but this car loses 100 lb, making this car weighs under 2,000 lbs. The exterior look is still sleek as expected for this model, yet it also has carbon fiber deflector instead of tonneau cover and windshield.
The next car is based on next-year-coming Retractable Fastback model. The new MX-5 RF Kuro model is finished in semi-mate Dark Grey finish. The word “Kuro” alone is a Japanese for charcoal or black. It has been used on several special editions, so it is likely to come as production version as well in the future.
This car rides on 17×17.5 inch of RAYS forged wheels covered with 215/45R17 BF Goodrich Rival G-Force tires. In addition to it, this car is also equipped with adjustable suspension derived from Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup. The overall design is familiar enough to our eyes, but this car is lowered a little. Both cars are designed and developed by brand’s Design Team in Irvine, California.
Powertrain, Engine — MX-5 RF Kuro, MX-5 Miata Speedster Evo
When both cars concepts are revealed, Mazda didn’t disclose any information on the powertrain. That should be safe to assume that both cars are still using the same engine as the current MX-5 engine. With both cars are merely concepts right now, modification on the engine is unlikely.

Both of the cars are merely concept right now even though we can hope the Kuro to come to production level. Both cars will be displayed in SEMA event in November.
In conclusion, both cars will be more than enough to attract audience attention to the booth. The first car, sadly just for the concept, shows what Mazda can do to race car today, while the second car should give us enough picture on how badass Mazda cars in the future. We love both the Mazda MX-5 Speedster and MX-5 Kuro.
