Fiat Chrysler Brings Portal Concept to CES. 2017 Consumer Electronics Show will start soon, and many people are curious about what Fiat Chrysler will make in the show. It turns out, the Italian manufacturer will use this opportunity to unveil its newest concept, Portal. The Italian automaker dubbed this concept as something “created by millennials for millennials.” Judging from the tagline along, we definitely have some images in our mind about what this concept will offer.
Chrysler Portal Concept Specifications
In terms of design, it is obvious that Portal is inspired by the popular Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The overall design is pretty much the same. However, Portal gets plenty of glass treatment that reveals its sophisticated interior design. Despite the similarity, Portal is not intended to be a version of Pacifica. As a matter of fact, it presents more surprises both in design and performance.
Chrysler Portal features more aggressive, hardcore and distinctive visual thanks to its battle tank body concept. Moreover, since this fully electric minivan is targeted to millennials, the exterior design is more current and out of the box. The most noteworthy part of the exterior is the sliding door. Not only it is dominated by glass, but the doors also can slide to opposite direction, presenting wide entrance to the cabin. In addition to the cool sliding doors, LED headlights also contribute in spicing up the exterior.
The exterior screams Millennials all over it, but it is the material, features, and technologies inside the cabin that will serve as the biggest appeal to the target customers. The dashboard looks simple, but it features the latest OLED display and a touchscreen which position can be easily rearranged.
The steering wheels look more like a gaming console than a real steering wheel. But let’s not complain yet. This is just a concept, and it is normal for a concept to be equipped with ridiculous features. Furthermore, it also features “futuristic” steering wheel that more resembles a gaming console.
For the passenger’s comfort and convenience, all the seats are mounted on rails. As a result, the seats can be easily moved forward and backward, folded flat to the floor and even removed completely. In addition, not less than ten charging docks are available inside the cabin so everybody in the minivan can freely charge their own gadget.

Powertrain, Electric range and Features
On the power department, it is reported that Portal concept is equipped with 100 kWh battery pack that boasts 250 miles of electric range. Furthermore, it is reported that Portal concept also features autonomous driving technology. Thanks to its advanced LiDAR, cameras, radar and various ultrasonic sensor, Portal concept’s self-driving system is categorized into level 3. It means the car is capable of driving on its own in most situations including highway driving.
Driver’s intervention will still be needed occasionally. But, the vehicle will be capable of handling most of the hard work safely. Moreover, Fiat Chrysler said that one thing that will attract the millennials most in this car is its upgradeable in-car technology. This feature will allow the owner to add additional technologies based on their own liking, like a baby monitor for example.
