Chevrolet FNR-X — At this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, Chevrolet just debuted its second FNR concept after the teaser was released a week ago. This time, it is called FNR-X, and as the follow-up of the first FNR concept that was introduced two years ago at the same show, FNR-X concept is designed by Chevrolet’s Asia design team. The Shanghai-based design team, Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center is a joint venture between General Motor and leading Chinese automaker, SAIC Motor.
Chevrolet FNR-X Specifications
Just like its name, FNR, which stands for Find New Roads. The concept is developed to showcase the brand’s new design direction and technology as well as what its Asia-based design team is capable of. However, unlike the first FNR concept which is a sports car, FNR-X is a plugin hybrid SUV.
According to Chevrolet, FNR-X is an excellent combination of performance and versatility, and in terms of design it comes with “clear and masculine lines.”
The concept comes with remotely controlled suicide doors with the rear doors hinged at the rear, ensuring easy access to the spacious and comfortable cabin. The dashboard and steering wheel looks sporty, futuristic, but still also has some elegance in them.
Besides, the seat can be easily moved that will be beneficial to maximize cargo space. Even though the car still comes with some touchpad control, most interaction with the car can easily be done via voice control.
Features of Chevrolet FNR-X
One of the most attractive things about this concept is the fact that driver can easily swap between two driving modes—V for Versatility mode and S for Sports mode. We can easily see from the very first glance that this SUV comes with a very low ground clearance and it just spells disaster when you bring it to an off-road setting.
However, when you activate the V mode, the suspension will rise and give the car more ground clearance, allowing you to take the vehicle to the off-road environment. Furthermore, when the autonomous driving is activated in this mode, the system will automatically choose the safest and the best route that will be very helpful in complex off-road condition.
Meanwhile, when the S mode is activated, the suspension will lower itself again. In addition, the front and rear spoiler, as well as the side skirts, will be adjusted to give the car more aerodynamic advantage. The blades in the wheels also will be automatically adapted to help increasing airflow.
The Chevrolet FNR-X concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. But, the automaker doesn’t spill the details regarding the plugin hybrid drivetrain. They just said that the drivetrain would be powerful and drivers can easily switch and choose which power they want to use for the car—the internal combustion engine, the electric power or the combination of both.
Chevrolet FNR-X Price and Release date
It is safe to say that FNR-X concept will not spawn into production version. And, it is only showcased to show Chevrolet’s design direction in the future as well as its newest technologies. However, even though we will not see any FNR-X in the dealerships, it is reported that some of the concept’s technologies will be used in Chevrolet’s new models in the future.
