2018 Cadillac XT4 . At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Cadillac is all about the Escala concept. The American automaker keeps bringing the Escala forward since it shows the company’s design direction for the upcoming future. Just when we thought Escala is the only good thing Cadillac has in store this year, the President itself revealed a very interesting thing regarding the luxury automaker’s newest crossover that will be called XT4 and is set to launch in 2018.
We already knew that Cadillac is preparing a new compact crossover and we have even seen the spy shots several times. But what Johan de Nysschen said in an interview at the auto show gives us more lights on what exactly XT4 is all about.
“A new compact crossover called XT4 will debut in 2018 in the US and subsequently in Europe, with an entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines. Starting with the launch of XT4, a new Cadillac will be brought to market every six months, a total of five car lines in the space of two years,” de Nysschen said.
De Nysschen didn’t go details on the powertrain, but he mentioned that the car would arrive with “new series of efficient and powerful engine.” If we take a look again at the previous spy shots of XT4, we can safely assume that we are not going to get super impressive powertrain with lots of ponies. Moreover, the XT4 will be slotted below XT5 and Escalada in the luxury automaker’s SUV and crossover range, so we definitely should not expect a powerful powertrain.
2018 Cadillac XT4 Specifications
However, since XT4 is set to compete with the likes of BMW XI, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3, the chance is high that 2018 Cadillac XT4 will get the company’s new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Furthermore, all-wheel drive system and 9-speed automatic transmission could also be on the menu. In addition, we also can expect 2018/2019 Cadillac XT4 to come with the new diesel engine as well, just like what Cadillac has promised since a long time ago.
Before Johan de Nysschen made those statements, we always referred XT4 as XT3. But now that we know that Cadillac’s newest Crossover will be called 2018 Cadillac XT4, what’s going to happen with XT3? It turns out that Cadillac will not entirely ditch the XT3 moniker as the automaker has prepared another plan for it. It is reported that Cadillac is also currently making another compact crossover, which will be smaller than XT4 and that smaller crossover will be the one called XT3.
Just like what de Nysschen said, 2018 Cadillac XT4 will be available in the USA first, and after that, it will arrive in the Old Continent as well. The company doesn’t give us specific details about the launching time, but it seems like it will be revealed in early 2018 and go on sale sometime in the end of the first semester.
Meanwhile, the smaller XT3 is planned to be released in the next decade. Up to this time, Cadillac is still working on the XT4. Therefore, we can expect to see more spy shots of the new crossover in the upcoming months.
