Buick Velite Plug-in Hybrid Concept — Buick Released Teaser Shot for Velite Plug-In Hybrid Concept. Buick has just recently released a teaser shot for its newest plug-in hybrid concept, the Velite. If Velite sounds familiar to you, it is because Buick has used this moniker on two different occasions in the past.
The first one is at 2004 New York Auto Show where the Velite name is used as a convertible concept. And in 2014, it is once again used for US variant of 4-seat convertible Opel Cascada. This time Buick has made an incredibly good plan for this plugin hybrid concept. So, probably this name will finally be used for the production version.
Buick Velite Plug-in Hybrid Concept Specifications
Buick is currently planning to start selling its Buick Blue Brand in China and the new Buick Velite Plug-in Hybrid Concept is going to be its first stepping stone. Besides, Buick representative also stated that Velite is going to be the template for upcoming models that will be launched under Buick Blue new energy vehicle in the future.
The teaser shot only reveals the front part, but many interesting things are going on there. One of the most noteworthy parts of the front fascia visual is the beautiful curves of the car hood.
Furthermore, this upcoming Buick Velite Concept car also gets narrow grille accentuated with the thin blue line across the front end. Right in the middle, full-color tri-shield Buick badge is ready to catch attention with its glow.
Engine, Electric Range — Buick Velite PHEV Concept
Buick is actually just Volt with the different name. Consequently, it will come with Volt’s extended-range electric powertrain. At least that’s what we can find from the rumors that have been surrounded this plugin hybrid concept all this time.
Second generation Volt has been performing well in US market with sales increasing more than sixty percent in less than ten months. So, going Volt’s route is a very effective way to put Buick Blue brand on the map. Which is especially since this company wants to try its luck in penetrating competitive China market.
However, to compete well in China, Buick’s car needs to have a more environmentally friendly technology. And, PHEV is the more feasible option for this. So, the possibility is very high that Velite will be powered by PHEV powertrain like in Cadillac CT6 instead of Volt’s extended-range electric powertrain.
