New BMW M8 Super Coupe Test Mule Spotted Testing for the First Time. A new BMW test mule was recently spotted testing for the first time at Nurburgring. It is believed that it was actually the test mule for the new BMW M8 that is said to arrive in 2019 or 2020. All this time, we were confused whether BMW’s new big 2-door coupe will be designated as 6 Series or 8 Series.
Turns out, BMW has decided to give the 2-door coupe 8 Series designation, and it will act as the replacement for 6 Series. As for the 6 Series, it will stay alive and well in the form of a handsomely designed liftback which will be the successor for 5 Series GT. The 8 Series has been confirmed to return, and BMW spices up the lineup by adding the high-performance M8 to the lineup.
BMW M8 Super Coupe Specifications
The new M8 will use CLAR platform, which also underpins the 5 and 7 Series. From the spy shots, we can see that the front bumper is highly camouflaged and we suspect it is because large air inlets are being hidden there.
Furthermore, if you take a look closer at the mule, you will notice that the car seems like doesn’t have quad exhaust setup. Well, let’s not jump to the conclusion that the M8 will be lacked that element. It is possible that it is just a part of the camouflage, BMW is saving something special there, and they don’t want it to be revealed this early.
However, it is also possible that we are not looking at the real M8. Instead, the car is just a regular 8 Series dressed with M-Sport package. So, let’s just wait patiently until we get the next batch of spy shots and see what the Bavarian automaker has in store for the M8. Besides those things above, the car also comes with bigger alloy wheel and brake rotor with blue M caliper.
The new BMW M8 Super Coupe will be powered by the usual twin turbo V8 engine that delivers 600 HP. It is the same engine that will also be used in the upcoming BMW M5. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive option with the advanced system will be available. Going down the rumor mill, it is said that M5 will be offered with optional drift mode. Since the two models share the same engine, it is safe to say that the M8 will also be offered with the drift mode.
Besides the V8 engine, the new M8 2020 will also come with plugin hybrid 840e Performance version. It is still unconfirmed, but the chance is high that the new car will use the same powertrain with 740e Performance that was just recently revealed.
BMW M8 Super Coupe Release Date and Price
It is reported that the regular M8 coupe will be revealed sometime next year while the convertible version is set to arrive in 2019. As for the M8, there is no specific debut date yet, but it is said that it will be unveiled shortly after the convertible.
