2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace to Debut in Detroit. Ahead of its debut in Detroit, Volkswagen teased its newest member of Tiguan lineup, the 7-seater 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
The Allspace naming is only added for Germany market to distinguish it with the smaller 5-seater version. In US and China, the CUV is still called Tiguan.
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Specifications
New 2018 VW Tiguan Allspace 7 Seater is basically the longer wheelbase version of the European Tiguan. Since the wheelbase is longer by 11 cm (4.3 inches) compared to the standard, Tiguan Allspace provides bigger cabin that can accommodate up to 7 passengers.
Besides of the larger dimension, the design is pretty much the same with the 5-seater Tiguan. There are no noteworthy elements we can see from the teaser. But maybe everything will look better when we see the real car in the upcoming NAIAS.
Volkswagen remains silent regarding the engine that will power Tiguan Allspace 2018. But it is possible that the engine lineup from regular wheelbase Tiguan will be used in this new model as well.
It means we can say hello again to the usual 1.4 L and 1.8 L TSI engine as well as the 2.0 TDI engine. Considering the size of the car, it seems like a 2.0 L turbocharged GTI engine with 210 HP power output will also be offered.
In addition, we can also expect a more fuel efficient version of the 2.0 L GTI. Probably one that can deliver 190 HP and 236 lb. feet of torque. Furthermore, there is also a possibility that hybrid powertrain will be available sometime in the future.
The bottom line is because MQB platform underpins Tiguan Allspace. It mainly can be equipped with all VW’s newest engine as well as 5h generation AWD.
Due to the company’s Dieselgate case, it is almost certain that the 2.0 TDI engine or any diesel mill that might be available for that matter will not be flown to US market. But it is possible that Volkswagen will offer something else to replace it.
There has not been any information regarding the transmission that will be paired with the engine. But, 7-speed DSG gearbox is the most likely option. But if VW pays attention to what the customer prefers, 8-speed regular automatic transmission that is used in Atlas could be a better candidate.
