2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek. Confirmed, 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Will Debut at Geneva Motor Show. Subaru recently confirmed that 2018 Subaru Crosstrek—also known as XV in Europe—will make its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. This is not surprising news, especially since the related Impreza compact is also refreshed for 2018 model year. Along with the announcement, Subaru also revealed a profile view teaser of its upcoming subcompact SUV.
2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek Specifications
The new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will take some styling cues from the new Impreza as well as the older XVs. However, contrary to the compact’s smooth and sleek lines, Crosstrek will be more rugged and definitely look ready for adventure. The refresh in the subcompact SUV will include the new bumper with more aggressive design, black plastic cladding over the rocker panels and wheel arches, roof rack. In addition, the new Crosstrek also will have taller ride height.
Furthermore, the biggest similarity between Subaru Crosstrek and the new Impreza is the side mirrors. Instead of mounted on the A-pillar, just like most cars out there, Crosstrek’s side mirrors are mounted on the front doors.
Up to this point, we can clearly see that the refresh doesn’t bring too many new elements to the new Crosstrek. It is very different with 2016 update when the subcompact SUV was blessed with plenty of new materials such as new bumper and grille, redesigned headlights, as well as high-end driving assistance systems like rear cross traffic alert and blind spot warning.
But Subaru certainly will not send the new Crosstrek to fight in the market without some remarkable new elements. As a result, the new model will be equipped with the automaker’s latest infotainment system, Starlink. Furthermore, if customers don’t mind to pour some more money, they can opt for additional EyeSight electronic driving assistance that includes pre-collision assist and lane departure warning.
Engine — 2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid?
Only one engine will be available at launch. It is the FB20 2.0 L boxer engine with direct injection that generates 152 HP and 145 pounds of feet at 4,000 RPM. This is the same engine that powers the new Impreza. A 6-speed manual transmission will be offered for some trim, but most will be paired to a Lineartronic CVT. Furthermore, Subaru’s symmetrical AWD will also be offered.

Due to the car’s new modular platform and Subaru’s electrification project for future models, it is safe to say that the new Crosstrek will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain in years to come.
However, different with the discontinued hybrid model, the hybrid powertrain in the new model will come with plugin setup capability that makes driving with zero emission possible. It sounds very promising, but it seems like the plugin hybrid version will not come with us at least until 2019 model year.
2018 Subaru Crosstrek Price and Release Date
2018 Subaru Crosstrek will debut in March at Geneva Motor Show. Meanwhile, in the US, the car is set to debut a month after at New York Auto Show. There is no word yet on pricing. But, maybe it will not be far from $22,570 which is the current model’s starting price.
