2018 McLaren 720S is the Replacement for 650S — The replacement for McLaren 650S is rumored to be almost ready, and it possibly will be called 720S (codenamed P14).
The car has been spotted testing several times in some places around Europe, indicating that the debut date is just around the corner.
2018 McLaren 720S Specifications
Just like 650S, 720 in the 2018 McLaren 720S refers to the power figure of the car. If it is indeed true, the 650S replacement will make Ferrari 488 GTB blushes. Unlike other McLaren’s car nowadays, the 3.8 L twin turbo mill will not make its way to 720S’ bonnet since it will not be enough to generate the anticipated 720 HP. Instead, the new car will benefit from the powerful M838T 4.0 L twin turbo V8 engine which is definitely more suitable for a supercar that is 720S.
In addition to the boost of power from 650 HP to 720 HP, the most noteworthy thing in this new McLaren car is its chassis. The chassis built for McLaren 720S 2018 will be able to accommodate hybrid powertrain. This is actually not a big surprise since McLaren has made $1.4 billion of investment in electrification. And, it will be very unwise to exclude something so promising like 720S out of the plan.
However, we will not see hybrid 720S anytime soon since the initial production will only come exclusively with the petrol engine. Furthermore, McLaren has not said anything regarding what kind of electrification 720S will receive. But, maybe KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) could be a good candidate.
Exterior, Interior Spy shot
Another important element in this future Mclaren car is its dashboard. As what has been reported by Autogespot, McLaren 720S 2018 will have a dashboard that can physically lower itself when the Track Mode is activated. As a result, the driver will get a clearer and better view of what lies ahead.

Besides, the Track Mode also provides a very simple instrument cluster that will display valuable information including engine speed, oil and cooling temperature, tire pressure and current gear.
Furthermore, 2018 720S also will be lighter than the car it replaces. Thanks to the MonoCell, the carbon fiber tub used to build this car.
Release Date and Price
Rumor has it; the car will make its debut at 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. But, it will be ready for customer testing as early as January. Even though McLaren has not announced the official pricing, it is rumored that the first units, which has not even been produced, have all been sold. So, the next buyers will need to wait until the next batches of production are ready.
