2018 Hyundai ix35 — The first generation Hyundai ix35, which was just a second generation Tucson crossover, has now disappeared from the global market. But it doesn’t mean that the SUV will die forever because Hyundai now gives ix35 the second generation, but it will only be available in China. The car was just unveiled at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, and it will be positioned below Tucson and ix25, which is known as Creta in India.
2018 Hyundai ix35 Specifications
China exclusive ix35 ride on a 2,6400mm wheelbase, which is the same with the first generation and its overall dimension is 4,435 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall. It means ix35 is just a little bit smaller compared to global market Tucson which is measured at 4,475 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,655 mm tall. Both cars ride on the same 2,670 mm wheelbase. However, ix35 is bigger compared to its sibling ix25 (Creta).
Hyundai ix35’s design follows the same direction with the other newer Hyundai models. However, the styling is more mature and formal, especially when it is compared to Tucson.
The front fascia has the most differences compared to the first generation model. Now, ix35’s front part comes with a version of Hyundai’s iconic hexagonal cascading grille. Furthermore, the sleek headlights look more distinctive and upright. We can also see the new bumper as well as the revamped and more prominent air vents that house the fog lamps.
The front looks pretty nice and so does the side profile. One of the most noteworthy design elements on this side is the new window line component. In addition to the more beautiful window line, the car also looks more aggressive thanks to the more prominent wheel arches as well as, the fewer creases and lines seamlessly going down the length of the car.
It will be better if we can see the rear part as well, but unfortunately, that part remains a secret. Just like the rear fascia, Hyundai also has not revealed how the cabin looks like. However, it seems like we can see some familiar elements from Hyundai’s newer models.
There will be two options of engine available. The first one is a 2.0 L naturally aspirated petrol engine, and the other one is a 1.4 L turbocharged petrol unit. The engine can be paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
2018 Hyundai ix35 Release Date and price
It is reported that 2018 Hyundai ix35 will hit China market sometime at the end of 2017. And, it is very unlikely for the SUV to be sold in other regions. It is a shame though because India market needs something like ix35.
But even though this new SUV will not appear in India, according to reports Hyundai is currently planning to launch eight new models by 2020. Before sending that plan into realization, the South Korean automaker will launch all-new Verna and Ioniq Hybrid in India next year. Furthermore, to take ix35’s place in India market, Hyundai is currently preparing a new compact SUV that is based on Carlino concept.
