2018 Genesis G80 Sport — The New Genesis Brand Unveils G80 Sport. Hyundai’s new luxury brand Genesis showed us the all-new G80 Sport for the 2018 model year at the LA Auto Show. You may recognize the G80 as the Hyundai Genesis, but Genesis became its premium brand in late 2015.
2018 Genesis G80 Sport Specifications
Engine — 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport
The upcoming 2018 Genesis G80 Sport adds performance and variety to the well-rounded G80 sedan which currently only has two engine options, a frugal V6, and a powerful V8. The Sport model adds a twin-turbo 3.3L V6 is cranking out 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. That’s only 7 lb-ft of torque less than the available 5.0L V8. This makes the G80 more competitive with performance mid-size luxury sedans like the Audi A6 3.0T, Mercedes-AMG E43, and Jaguar XF S.
We don’t know much about the upcoming 3.3L V6, but we’re looking forward to seeing it in action. Leaked images have shown that it has a rather flat torque curve delivering power and torque evenly through the rev range.
The motor isn’t the only difference in the new Genesis G80 Sport. The 8-speed automatic transmission gets a more aggressive tune, the suspension gets adjustable dampers and ventilated brakes. It also has a sportier look. The new front fascia blacks out the large-mouthed grille are making it almost sound like a Ford ST. The dark accents continue to the 19” wheels and the rear diffuser.
Features, Exterior and Interior reviews
The interior has real carbon fiber dash accents. It’s not that fake carbon fiber plastic. This is the real stuff. Leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel are standard with tasteful accents in the stitching along with a black microfiber suede headliner. Aluminum pedals and more aluminum accents around the cabin add to the sporty look and feel of the whole package.
The 2018 Genesis G80 sporty interior comes with advanced technology you’d expect from a luxury car. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, and there’s even an option for wireless charging for compatible devices. That means you can link your smartphone to the car while charging it with no cords at all. Phone connectivity is easier than ever.
Standard safety features: lane keeping assist, Adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, driver attention alert, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams and a backup camera and a 360-degree camera are also available.

2018 Genesis G80 Sport Price and Release Date
The new 2018 Genesis G80 Sport is expected to hit showroom floors in Spring of 2017. If there’s no dedicated Genesis dealer in your area, you should be able to find them at your local Hyundai store. We don’t know anything about pricing yet, but if it’s anything like the rest of the Genesis lineup, it should offer an excellent value over the European competition. So, its price is expected close to the $42,350 of the 2017 model.
The Genesis brand is off to a great start with the G80 and G90 luxury sedans. We can expect to see an entry into the ultra-competitive luxury compact market from Genesis in the future, but for now, they’re making a good name for themselves in the mid-size and full-size luxury range.
In a luxury market where a lot of cars and brands blend, Genesis is standing out as an attractive, budget-friendly alternative. The addition of the G80 Sport in the lineup will do great things for the credibility and popularity of Genesis.
