Updated January 11, 2016: Chevrolet will offer the second generation of three-row crossover through 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. Being the first generation are Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. This second generation will feature bigger concept and size as the manufacturer is thinking big for their new popular car. Just recently revealed in a Motor Show, this upcoming big crossover is predicted to be the mighty car that will shake the automotive industry in the US.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse Specifications
Let’s talk about the size first. This new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse car will be undiminished in size, have longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase will also be 8 inches longer compared to new Chevrolet Acadia. However, this new upcoming car does have the same basic architecture with Chevrolet GMC.
According to Chevrolet officials, this new car will provide more legroom and headroom for both the second and third row. What an awesome cabin concept. But, Chevrolet made the sacrifice with the cargo size as it will be a bit smaller than its predecessor although it will still be a big larger than its competitors including Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot.
Let’s move to the outer design of the car. The designers from Chevrolet have decided to adopt more squared off appearance, unlike its predecessor. Meanwhile, smaller mirrors, narrow headlights, and large hexagonal grille complement the new front end of the car. The side glass area of the car will have truck life profile that is similar to the profile of Acadia thanks to the body-color C-pillar.
Chevrolet has made it clear there will be several different models and concept for the new Chevrolet Traverse. The models include models that are dedicated with configurations for seven and eight passengers, models with lower trim levels and 3-seat benches for both the second and third row, and also the fancier model that sport two captain’s chairs seated in the middle row.
Furthermore, there will be a list of features inside the cabin. They include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, rear seat reminder system of GM, automated emergency braking and other active safety features.
Engine – 2018 Chevrolet Traverse
Under the hood, Chevrolet does give some surprise including weight savings as many as 351 pounds. It makes the car more in line with its competitors like Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot that are smaller as well. Meanwhile, the engine will be the 3.6 liter of the V6 engine that can provide motive force and produce 260 lb-feet of torque and 305 horsepower.
Apparently, this engine is less powerful and also an older version compared to the engine inside the Acadia car. Acadia’s engine can even produce as many as 310 horsepowers and 271 lb-feet or torque.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse Price and Release Date
According to the Chevrolet officials, this new Chevrolet car will be started on the sale in midsummer in 2018. As for the price, it will be in a range from $30.000 to $40.000 according to the model and trim level. Well, this is a decent price for a car with such performance and features.

2018 Chevrolet Traverse Gets Different Treatment. The new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is in the development process, and news quoted that it gets different treatment from powertrain to the wheelbase. It seems like GM tries to make a significant difference between this SUV and GMC Acadia. They often appear as twins in the market. Check out the details below.
Power and Specs:
Until today, there is no official confirmation on the specs of the new 2018 Chevrolet traverse SUV. However, several estimations lead to the upgraded version of the same 3.6 liters of the V6 gasoline engine. In this model, the engine is expected to generate around 310 hp of power output. On current model, this engine produces only 288 hp. Acadia’s engine, 2.5 liters four-cylinder engine, is unlikely to be used on this SUV though. The engine is probably paired with six-speed manual transmission. In the alternative, GM’s under development nine-speed automatic transmission should be available too. The front-wheel drive should come as standard driving configuration while all-wheel drive should be made available as well.
Exterior and Interior:
Right now, there is no specific detail on styling, but their core plans are revealed. This SUV will share the same platform as GMC Acadia. This platform is practically 700 pounds lighter and 7 inches shorter from the previous version. This measurement influences the SUV in which it seats only up to seven passengers now instead of eight, yet it offers more spacious room for the leg, head, and luggage.
The seats will be in three rows, but being spacious, this SUV is offering even better comfort even to the third rows. Chevrolet hasn’t issued any detail on its cabin, so we should stay tuned to get the first update on it very soon.
2018 Chevrolet Traverse Release Date and Price:
No one knows when Chevrolet plans to release this new SUV. If they don’t bring it in Los Angeles Auto Show this fall, it may appear in Detroit event in 2017. This car is a 2018 model, though, so the release should be later next year at least. 2018 Chevrolet Traverse Prices is not yet known, but it is estimated to be around $30,000, which should be the same as current model’s price.
This SUV seems to have a subtle design and concept, offering even better things even though the change is not entirely perfect. Even though there are so many other great specs SUVs in the market, this car is going to get the huge chance. Stay tuned for further details on 2018 Chevrolet Traverse.
