2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition . The youthful Scion FR-S sports coupe now has transformed into Toyota 86 for 2017 model year. To hype up this car, especially since it only comes with one trim level, the Japanese automaker launches Toyota 860 Special Edition, which is the more sophisticated version of the 86. So, what does the number 860 means? Does it mean that the performance is ten times better than the 86? Or maybe it runs ten times faster?.
Well, unfortunately, it has nothing to do with any of that because 860 actually refers to the number of units produced. 860 units in Halo White and other 860 units in Supernova Orange, exclusive paint jobs for this special edition model. But this car is indeed better than the standard model because the body of the car is stiffer thanks to the retuned suspension.
2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition Specifications
Even though we hope that this special edition car can be a performance model, unfortunately, Toyota 860 is all about visual because most of the improvements are focused on the design. To accompany the exclusive body paint, the car gets black racing stripes to increase its sporty vibe.
Furthermore, to distinguish this special edition model with the standard one, it also gets some new distinctive elements such as aerodynamic underbody panel, 17 inches wheels in black chrome finish, black side mirrors and new rear spoilers, still in the black. In addition, the fender vents and fog lights are also redesigned.
The exterior looks stunning and sporty, but the interior looks elegant. The cabin looks very expensive and feels comfortable thanks to the heated seats, upholstered with black leather and accentuated with contrasting orange seams. Not only the seats, the panel door, steering wheel, handbrake, shift boot, and of course the dashboard are also covered with the same black leather and orange stitching.

Besides the visual updates, Toyota 860 also gets plenty of tech updates such as push button ignition and dual-zone automatic climate control. The most noteworthy of all is certainly the 4.2” multi infotainment display. This is not the largest screen of all, but it is still larger compared to what the 86 has. The good thing is, this large TFT screen comes with G-force meter with lap timer functions that can also display various trip information.
Nothing changes in the mechanical department. So, the 2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition will come with the same powertrain with its sibling the Toyota 86. Furthermore, buyers can choose to pair the engine with either a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifter and Dynamic Rev Management. The manual transmission model gets five more ponies. So, the total power output is 205 HP with 156-pound feet of torque at 6,400 RPM.
