2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS Rendered and It Looks Good. 2017 Mazda CX-5 was just launched last week, and we love what we saw. While this second generation CX-5 is already powerful enough for its class, we can’t help but want more.
If you are a performance-car enthusiast, you wish the MPS version will follow soon after. Unfortunately, this Japanese automaker doesn’t have any plan to launch the MPS model anytime soon—or perhaps ever.
2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS Specifications
Interior, Exterior design
But imagining how it looks like will never hurt, right?. So, if you are curious about how 2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS would be like if it ever hits the market, you can take a look at the rendering that was made by X-Tomi Design. And even in its digital mock form, the car looks perfect.
It is based on the standard CX-5 body and design, but the rendered MPS comes with more subtle side skirt. At the front part, the car gets chin spoiler as well as revamped lower bumper that matches the new spoiler. Furthermore, the car looks more aggressive yet elegant thanks to the distinctive wheel arches and dark chrome 20” alloy wheels.
The design is fantastic that we have to keep reminding ourselves that it is just an official rendering. But since we’re halfway already in our imagination. Let’s just continue and find out what engine could go well for this performance model.
Engine — 2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS
2017 Mazda CX-5’s engine lineup consists of naturally aspirated 2.0 L and 2.5 L four-cylinder engine. In the European market, the lineup is joined by a Skyactiv D 2.2 L engine. Those units are gold, but we need something even more powerful that can live up to MPS name.
And it seems like the best candidate for it is the 2.5 L turbocharged engine from 2016 Mazda CX-9. This engine delivers 250 HP (170 kW) and 310-pound feet (420 Nm) of torque. This number is good to send the car sprinting to 100 km/h from standstill in 7.69 seconds. Since 2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS would be lighter than CX-9, we can expect the 0-100 km/h to go down to around 6 or 7 seconds.
Furthermore, sport brake and suspension definitely would be good additions for CX-5 MPS while CX-5 interior components plus special MPS stitching can be spiced up the cabin.
2017 Mazda CX-5 MPS Price and Release date
It’s been a while since we see Mazda launches MPS version in its cars and many people miss it. If Mazda wants to step up its game and launch the performance model, this is the right time because CX-5 sales are really well. As a matter of fact, CX-5 becomes a best-selling model in some markets. And, it is safe to say that the number of sales will soar if CX-5 MPS ever make it to production.
